How to prepare for a Case Interview

A case interview is an interview format designed to gauge your analytical and problem solving abilities by solving a hypothetical business situation. Typically Nexecon's cases closely reflect past work we have done for our clients. We want to emphasize that we do not expect you to have case experience prior to these interviews. However, to help you prepare, we have created an example first round case walkthrough. Please note that this should only be used as a rough guideline-- we want to see your unique thought process during your interview!

Frequently Asked Questions

Our recruitment process involves an application and two rounds of interviews. More information will be given at our recruitment events leading up to the application deadline. All undergraduate students, from any school, are invited to apply!
NCG looks for students who demonstrate strong leadership and communication qualities, a passion for problem-solving, and a desire to continuously improve. This is shown through a strong academic record and dedication to extracurricular activities. We also use interviews as a way to get to know our applicants better one-on-one.
A case interview is an interview format designed to gauge your business and analytical acumen by solving business problems similar to those our clients have faced in the past. It is an interviewer-led format, meaning you will be instructed to solve business problems through answering a series of questions posed by your interviewer. During the interview, take a logical approach to the issue and focus on walking your interviewers through your thought process. Attending our case workshop event is a great way to prepare, as we will give you a more detailed view of the process and can answer specific questions. For more practice, check out our practice case interview above!
We provide every first year analyst with a support system that includes training modules, mentorship, and individualized attention to ensure you are well-integrated into the club both professionally and socially. You will be staffed on a team with fellow analysts and a project manager, with weekly workstreams to be responsible for. There will also be social events frequently throughout the year, both with the whole club and in smaller groups. Learn more about our analyst experience here.
Don't get discouraged! Apply again. Members of our current executive board had to apply multiple times. Applying again shows a commitment to our organization and makes you a veteran during the interview process.
