Fortune 500 manufacturing company

Scope: product line expansion
Nexecon's Role: Analyzed industry wide trends to evaluate profitability and feasibility of expanding large product line. Identified key competitors and their branding strategies, and categorized potential customers into three main segments. Recommended partnerships crucial to laying down a strong foundation for potential new products.

Regional nonprofit bakery

Scope: operations digitalization and capacity modeling
Nexecon's Role: Digitalized company operations through creating user-friendly supply tracking system and capacity projection model. Resolved multiple logistics issues, allowing owners to focus on expanding the organization while ensuring they had the resources to do so.

Local healthcare nonprofit

Scope: impact growth
Nexecon's Role: Developed recommendations for geographic expansion to increase the organization’s impact and mission awareness. Consolidated metrics to use when strategically evaluating which areas would be most conducive to growth and most attractive for expansion, so that the organization can continue expanding beyond Nexecon recommendations.

Small PE/VC Firm

Scope: investment growth
Nexecon's Role: Dove into company financials and helped portfolio companies with challenges/problems. Identified and recommended investment targets for the firm, and devised solutions for problems faced by portfolio companies on a week by week basis for the duration of the project.

Startup technology consultancy

Scope: customer segmentation
Nexecon's Role: Explored ways of changing sales strategy to grow company in 4 major industries it had clients in. Analyzed each industry subcategory to discover ways to capture more of the Midwest demographic in each. Recommended tools to improve engagement to retain business at higher rates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nexecon has two guaranteed project cycles each year. Projects typically begin in late September during the Fall semester, and in late January during the Winter semester. Based on member availability, Nexecon may also offer a limited number of summer projects that begin in late May. Project engagements last 10-12 weeks, depending on each project's unique requirements.
Project teams consist of one project manager, 3-5 business analysts, and one senior project advisor. Project managers communicate with clients as frequently as is productive. Each project has two major deliverables with the whole Nexecon team and the client: a midpoint presentation where the clients see the progress of the project thus far, and communicates any adjustments needed on future direction; and a final deliverable which will include all completed work.
Nexecon works with clients ranging from local nonprofits and startups, to Fortune 500 companies. As you can see from our past clients, we have worked in a variety of industries as well. Our main priority is providing good hands-on experience for our teams, and valuable deliverables to clients. To ensure this, we appreciate clients who are willing to openly communication with project teams.

Nexecon Consulting Group is a student-run organization at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business that helps clients of all sizes solve their toughest business problems. Nexecon members make this possible by drawing from their diverse academic backgrounds, and working together in focused project teams. Each project is managed by older members with experience in the project's corresponding industry, and advised by real consulting firms and Michigan faculty.
